Hiking in Orem

Five Things You Shouldn’t Leave Behind When Hiking

By Blog

One of the nice things about living in student housing in Orem is how close you are to several hiking trails! If you haven’t already, take some time this summer to explore the beautiful area around you. Before you go, read through the checklist and make sure you’re prepared.

  • Water. This one should be a bit of a no brainer but you can never have too much water. Running out of water, especially in the heat, is miserable and potentially dangerous. Avoid this situation and fill up a large water bottle at your Provo student housing before you go anywhere. Read ahead to see if there are water refilling stations at the trail.
  • Snacks. While you’re hiking, you’re burning calories, and if you want to be able to finish your hike you need to replenish those calories by eating snacks. You can make something in your UVU off campus housing before you leave, or you can just buy some granola bars to take along. Protein, salty foods, and sweet foods are all important for keeping your energy up.
  • Good Shoes. Different shoes are good for different terrain. One thing all good hiking shoes need is traction. That rock face might seem easy and fun to climb, but when your shoes are slippery it immediately becomes a much scarier task. If you’re living in a UVU college apartment you can go over to the UVU Outdoor Adventure Center and borrow some proper gear.
  • A Camera. When you finally reach your destination, or even along the way, you’re going to want to take pictures. You need proof for your roommates that stayed at home in their UVU student housing that you actually reached the summit. You may even see a moose and want to take a picture. (Never approach a moose).
  • First Aid Kit. Bring some alcohol wipes, bandaids, and tweezers along with you for any cuts or splinters. Gauze or bandanas are light to carry and can be used for bigger wounds in an emergency.

If you’re still on the hunt for student housing in Orem to call your home base, we hope you’ll consider Promenade!

Packing for UVU Apartments

The Beginners Guide To Packing, Moving, & Unpacking

By Blog

Are you finishing up your first year in UVU student housing? Or researching housing to move into in the fall? You’ve come to the right place. Moving is a lot of work, and during your college years you’ll probably do it more than once; especially if you move home during the summers. So here we’ve made a beginners guide to help you figure it all out.

Make a plan. Planning ahead for your move will save you from staying up until 1 am trying to stuff your car before the move out deadline. Ask someone ahead of time to help you move. If you don’t have very much stuff you may be able to do it on your own, but no matter how strong you are, taking box after box from the third floor to the parking lot by yourself doesn’t work out super well. Try asking someone who doesn’t live in the same UVU student apartments as you, as they will likely be doing their own moving. Have a plan for your large awkward items; think about how you are going to pack it, and if it can be compacted to fit in a car or if you need a truck.

Be prepared. Being prepared isn’t just for boy scouts, it will help you out in all areas of life. Not being prepared to move in or out of student apartments by Utah Valley University can be a catastrophe. You need to know what size boxes you need and get those. Don’t get super large boxes that will be impossible to lift when filled up. Keep a sharpie around to label all of your boxes. Make sure you have plenty of packing tape; regular tape will not hold anything together. Newspaper or packing paper is important for protecting any dishes or fragile items you have. You will be glad you bought these supplies ahead of time, because the last minute on moving day is when all the students will be running to Walmart to buy the same thing.

Stay organized. Just as terrible as packing is, un packing when you’re at your new place can be rough. When packing up a box, put small items in zip lock bags so they don’t get lost. Keeping things in smaller containers, and packing those small containers into a box will make packing and unpacking so much easier. Keep similar items together, and label those boxes. You don’t want to pack a couple t-shirts with your frying pans, and you definitely don’t want to pack your cleaning supplies with your cereal. If you’re moving home for the summer and won’t need any of your school supplies, keep all of those in one box and don’t unpack it until you move back to UVU student housing in the fall.

Think about food. Try to use up most of your perishable food in the weeks ahead so that you don’t have to pack it or throw it away. If you have the space to pack your dry goods, it’s nice to have food at your new place and not have to buy a whole new pantry. If you have the space and want to bring your frozen and refrigerated items, have a cooler with ice ready so they stay cold during the drive. Make a plan of what you’re going to eat the first few days after you move. On moving day, you’ll probably want to get fast food. If you have some easy meals, keep all of the ingredients for those in the same box and unpack that one first when you move in.

If you’re looking for an awesome UVU student living experience in the fall, take a look at Promenade Place. Follow all of these tips, and moving will be a breeze. Let us know if any of these help you out!

  1. Set your budget: The first step is to determine the budget range that you can afford. It is important to stick with the options that fall under your budget range. Overspending on your accommodation will lead you in making adjustments on other necessary expenses. And consequently, you have to compromise the quality of lifestyle you are going to have.
  2. Explore websites: The second step is mindfully browsing through the information available in various top and popular websites of the student housing facilitators. You can find the images of floor plans, exterior and interior, and facilities provided under the establishment, which you must analyze one by one to see if they can meet your expectations.
  3. Accessible Location: The student housing that is located nearby or within the walking distance from the university will save you commuting time and cost. Considering an accessible location is an added benefit for someone who has other things to attend or pursue besides university sessions.
  4. Ask for the price: When you have analyzed the websites, noted the potential facilitators, now it is time to inquire about the lease cost. As you have already figured out each detail mindfully to see if it goes well to your needs and complements your preference, it is thus important to confirm if it aligns with your budget.
  5. Look for essential amenities: A well-furnished unit, 24/7 power back-up, solid wi-fi connectivity, and installation of basic tools and equipment such as dryer, cleaner, etc. is a must to comfortably pursue studies while having a fuss-free stay.
  6. Shortlist the best ones: When you have procured the details on budget, accessibility, prices, and amenities; now select the one carefully that perfectly suits your requirement and fits into your budget. In other words, determine the one that has the maximum number of facilities to offer and incur a minimum cost, without making you adjust on the quality of living.

Things will get pretty smooth after following the above steps, all you need to do next is have a virtual tour and discuss the terms and conditions of the lease agreement. If you are okay with everything and getting a positive vibe about the deal, lock the deal at the earliest. Since the most popular and top off-campus housing in Orem is subject to be occupied swiftly, you have to get into action quickly!
